Austereo Climate Change Mission Statement

"Austereo is committed to playing the role model for corporate sustainability.
Our ability to influence the behaviour of our staff, and millions of listeners inside and outside of Australia, gives us an extraordinary opportunity to positively impact the whole globe and the future of all its inhabitants.
It starts by living the message ourselves."

On a global scale Austereo is a proud sponsor of Earth Hour, which began in Sydney in 2007. 1 year on Earth Hour's sustainability message had grown nationally and globally with over 50 million people switching off their lights for one hour. Furthermore, in 2009 1 billion people cast their vote for a sustainable future.

On a local scale Austereo has implemented many initiatives for its staff. These include:

• Creating a green is good culture – Every state has an active green team, which meet regularly to plan and implement green initiatives
• Green reminder notes are placed in physical locations where choices are made e.g. in the kitchen where appliances can be turned off rather than left on standby
• We enforce print preview before print – and printing double sided as default
• We incorporate motion sensors light activation in 80% of our offices

Austereo hold bi-yearly staff awards to encourage its employees to work to their full potential. In 2009 the Eco-Hero Award was introduced. The Eco-Hero award is given to one staff member, nominated by their peers, who has demonstrated a willing contribution to preserving the environment in and around the workplace.
